There's nothing boring about this entrance hallway. The Cherished Gold paint colour from Dulux and Mosaic del Sur tiles create a warm welcome home. The bench is yellow leather with shoe storage underneath.
Dripping Flos lights in the middle of the staircase elongate the space.
This Wall&Deco wall covering creates an exotic backdrop to any dinner party.
The immediate statement is the colour clash between the B&B Italia sideboard in maroon against the coral lamp bases, more importantly though is both items are classics and will last a lifetime.。
Marco Zanuso 1950’s Italian armchairs covered in Dedar and Gaston Y Daniela fabrics lift the neutral grey background.
A view from the living room to the mezzanine TV room sealed off with Crittall windows and oak sliding door.
As the kitchen can be seen from the floor above, I decided to add the snazzy Patricia Urquiola tiles to brighten up the kitchen.
Everybody wants an island in the kitchen, but it’s not always possible. To solve this we used a Bulthaup Workbench.
The spice rack in walnut is a Studio Hopwood design, the first thing Tristan drew up when he started in the office. The workbench is lit by Lampe Gras lights in a chemistry lab style.
We decided to go dark in the TV room including the ceiling. The clients thought we were mad at first but realised that it improves TV viewing and makes those big Missoni cushions pop.
A moody corner in the TV room lit up by a Diesel lamp by Foscarini.
The clients and I decided to press the glamour button for the master bedroom. I’ve used the marbleised wall covering before but it just works so well in this room.
Porta Romana lights always exude glamour and to emphasise that more we have used table lamps instead of bedside lamps as they are bigger.
Hidden in the background there is a lovely joinery detail, the wardrobe doors have been upholstered in faux suede with a subtle little sparkle in metallic bronze.
Is it art or is it a bicycle, perhaps both especially set off with the USM cabinet in bright blue.
Timorous Beasties fabric stretched like a canvas has created a piece of affordable art in a guest bedroom.
Guest bedrooms are often a neglected space but to keep it in budget we have used furniture from Westelm which is both affordable and stylish, and with a little dressing looks more expensive than it is.

Designers Statement

A newly married couple approached me in a bit of a quandary. They had just bought a brand new house in north London. It certainly ticked all the boxes, with lots of space and plenty of bedrooms for a potential family and visiting parents. Sadly though the house lacked soul and was a little too open plan for their lifestyle. Each had strong opinions of how they wanted the house to look but their opinions differed somewhat and both having busy careers had little time to come to an agreement on what to do with their new home. That’s when Studio Hopwood stepped in. The couple had clearly done their homework using previous projects from the web site to back up their individual ideas on how they wanted their home. I did point out that all my projects are tailored around specific clients and not necessarily suitable for them. Both understood as from there on a high level of creativity amongst us began and resulted in a home that stands out from the crowd. I do hope you agree. It appears that the weekend Times newspaper and Living Etc. magazine are in agreement as both have featured the house and my clients enjoying their life in it.

We modified the bog standard kitchen with jazzy tiling and some extra bespoke pieces to make it look special. The open plan living room was split using Crittall windows and a sliding door to create a TV room finished in dark moody walls and punchy cushions. The master bedroom certainly hits the glamour button. The hallway, well, we tried an uplifting yellow, its daring but I think we’ve got away with it. I’m getting carried away, I love this house with its mix of vintage and special modern pieces all carefully chosen amongst us all. Have a look yourself, I just hope that I have offered a little inspiration for what can be done with a modern home.
